Packing for a Wedding in Coastal Wine Country
Updated: Aug 8, 2019
First of all, what do I mean by "Coastal Wine Country"? When you think of California's wine region, your mind automatically goes to Napa Valley, the picturesque rolling hills of vineyards. Throw the word "coastal" in there and you're slightly confused, are we going to the beach now? What most people don't know is that Sonoma County (California's less touristy but just as important wine region) is indeed particularly close to the coast, giving us a slightly colder climate at times.
This hot during the day, colder at night weather pattern can get a little daunting when you're packing, especially for an event that will most likely be outdoors. My biggest advice? Pack layers. Light sweaters, denim jackets, scarves, all great tools to bring an outfit together when dressing in layers. I plan on bringing a pashmina scarf as well as a light jacket for during the ceremony. I will be packing a thicker jacket and watching weather patterns leading up to the day of the wedding, just in case. I most likely wont need it during the ceremony, but potentially during the reception and later into the evening.
As you can see from this picture, my dress is SUPER bright and all of my accessories are very neutral. Having staples and accessories that you can pair with any outfit allows you to get your money's worth from those accessories. It also allows you to pack less, which is always a bonus if you're flying and have a weight limit.
Another piece of advice I would give if you're going to a wine country wedding, is to wear footwear with a thicker heel rather than stilettos. A wine country wedding will undoubtedly take place outside at some point and aerating the lawn during the ceremony and reception can seriously cramp your style. Wedges and flats are also a great alternative to stilettos.

Love this!! Super helpful because coastal can totally throw people off. Also—can’t wait to see you at the wedding!
