A Stay at The Healdsburg Inn on the Plaza
Updated: Jun 30, 2020
I had the pleasure of taking a little one night stay-cation at the Healdsburg Inn on the Plaza right in downtown Healdsburg.
A Four Sisters Inn boutique hotel, The Healdsburg Inn has 12 rooms in total and offers all the hospitality worthy of my favorite little town in Wine Country.
The building that The Healdsburg Inn is housed in has a lot of history behind it. Before becoming an inn, it was originally a Wells Fargo Bank, then a shoe shop, an art studio, and a dentist's office. It has changed several hands but a few historical touches have remained. Upon entering into the lobby you can see the original brick wall built by Italian stone masons, as well as the original staircase leading up to the second floor.
In 2004, the Four Sisters Inn boutique hotel company purchased the Inn and started extensive renovations to make it into the charming Inn that you see today, by keeping those charming and historical details.
After a day of wine tasting in the Russian River Valley, we checked in to the hotel at about 5pm (check-in begins at 4), and we were shown to our room. Our room was located on the second floor of the Inn right by the original staircase, and was very spacious. Our room included a very comfortable king size bed as well as a day bed, a gas fire place that turns on with a flick of a switch, cozy bath robes, a large claw foot tub as well as a separate standing shower. Our room also shared a covered outdoor balcony at the back of the inn with tables and chairs, perfect for enjoying your morning coffee or a glass of wine in the evening.
After check-in we were encouraged to join the other hotel guests for Wine and Hors D'Oeuvres.
Wine and Hors D'Oeuvres takes places in their Sun Room on the second floor every afternoon from 5 to 6. A representative from a local winery joins the guests and pours a selection from the winery they are working for. On the evening we were staying there, we got to enjoy some great wine from Robert Young Winery located in the Alexander Valley. With our wine we also got to enjoy some light snacks which included fruits, crackers and a selection of local cheeses, as well as some freshly baked cookies.
After Wine and Hors D'Oeuvres we were inspired to continue our evening sipping on some wine on the shared patio just outside our room. Several of the rooms at the Inn share this covered patio. Other rooms have a spacious sitting area with large windows overlooking the Healdsburg town Square. The shared outdoor patio was furnished with small tables and some chairs as well as some potted plants which created a charming outdoor space.
Staying directly on the Healdsburg Town Square was so convenient. When we were ready for dinner we just took a quick 5 minute walk to one of the many restaurant options in the area. Since we are from the area, we already knew exactly where we wanted to go for dinner. However, if you're not familiar with the area, the Inn has an in house concierge that as happy to help with any restaurant and winery recommendations and reservations.
We made sure to brig our hotels keys. Because the Inn is a Bed and Breakfast style boutique hotel, the manager locks the front door of the hotel every night when she leaves at 8pm. Our set of keys upon check-in included our room key and a key to the front door, so we had no trouble getting back in after dinner.
After a very comfortable night of sleep in the huge king size bed, breakfast was delivered to our door by the in-house chef that prepares a fresh breakfast every morning. Prior to the manager locking up the night before, we made sure to put in our breakfast order and what time we wanted to receive it. We ordered fresh coffee and orange juice, freshly baked snickerdoodle muffins, spinach quiche with fresh salsa, low-fat yogurt and granola.
Breakfast in bed is an extra $10, however the Inn also has a complimentary buffet breakfast that they serve in their Sun Room from 8am to 10am, along with a full coffee bar and some juice options. Most of their breakfast items that are freshly made each morning can be found in their cook book! In the lobby of the Inn, you'll find a sample of the cook book that is available for purchase.
We absolutely loved our stay at the Healdsburg Inn on the Plaza. Not only was the location perfect for a little getaway to Healdsburg, the Inn was so charming and the hospitality was great. Some of my favorite features aside from the charming interior with the original historical details, were the Wine and Hors D'Oeuvres hour in the Sun Room, the shared outdoor patio, and how comfortable the bed was.
